A good neighborhood place run by a a true gentleman who made his bar a viable "club" in Htown. True class, genuine nice guy who gave it his best effort. Flaws? Sure but his restaurant and bar gave Havertownians (sp?) a place to call home and celebrate. Thank you Jack!

Just about everything in this place was 'Meh' (food, service, atmosphere...everything) and I cannot fathom what the reviewers are talking about when they gave it 5 stars. there is NOTHING (repeat... NOTHING) 5 stars about this establishment.
I didn't meet the owner, but he sounds like a nice guy... but that has nothing to do with the quality of the restaurant.
I gave it 2 stars because 1.5 isn't possible... and while it wasn't great, I suppose it could have been worse.
It seems to me this place is part of Havertown's past... but without massive updates and improvements, it should not be part of its future. -

Jack and the regulars helped me through a tough night. My brother just died and I was looking for a strong drink and a quiet place to reflect. I ended up with that plus some genuine care and great conversation. If you don't like it here you're a lame.

I've been meaning to write and update addressing the Lamplighter's long-standing Sunday Brunch. In truth, I would not call it a Sunday Brunch as it does not include any typical meats or vegetables you would normally eat for lunch. I would call it a breakfast buffet. It runs from 9 am to 2 pm and the cost is a very reasonable $12.95.
The lovely wife and I stopped in around 12:30 today. I usually try to visit buffets closer to the opening time as I want to avoid dried out food. Today I was pleasantly surprised.
As best I can remember the offerings included, omelets made to order, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, scrapple, pancakes, French toast, quiche, eggs benedict, fried potatoes, cinnamon apples, fresh fruit, and assorted toast. I'm sure I forgot a few.
The wife and I both agree the choices were fresh and the temperatures were appropriate. This is not gourmet cuisine but nicely prepared comfort food. Speaking of comfort, there is no need to dress up. You would be comfortable in jeans here.
So the wife and I sat near a glowing fireplace with cups of fresh coffee and enjoyed a pleasant meal. We'll be back. -
